Queen Elizabeth II Birthday ‘Guard of Honour’ Ride

Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th Birthday Guard of Honour Ride, 2016

On the 17th July 2016 DVX Productions had the great privilege of being allowed into the grounds of Windsor Castle. In fact over three days we filmed a very unusual event which was presented to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, to contribute to her 90th Birthday celebrations. As the Fell Pony is one of Her Majesties favorite equines, (in fact she still rides one regularly at the age of 90!). It was the brain child of Mary Longsdon, President of the Fell Pony Society to bring 90 Fell Ponies to converge at Windsor Park and arrange a ‘Guard of Honour’ ride. In fact it ended up with 130 ponies. The Queen was very keen to ensure that those who wanted to come would not be disappointed. It was an amazing site with riders and helpers dressed in vivid red and blue colours, contrasting with the prominently black ponies, it looked magnificent. The Queen arrived in the Duke’s carriage pulled by six Fell Ponies and flanked by the Queens remaining Fells. The Fell Pony Society’s ponies and riders then fell in lines of four behind.
The Queen was later introduced to all the ponies and their owners. She was keen to see all those that came and was finally presented with a variety of rosettes and a cup to mark the occasion. This clip is just a short Highlights of a 75 minute DVD that we have produced which is available on the Fell Pony Society website. If you care about our native breeds and our Royal Family this is a must buy gift!
